All of our roll cage trolleys, from the small demountable model to the jumbo nestable cage, are rated to 600kg. For heavier loads, our pallet retention cages are rated to 800kg and the heavy duty collapsible wire cage to 1,500kg, although these are moved by forklift or pallet truck rather than pushed by hand. Load the heaviest items at the bottom and never exceed the rated capacity, because a top-heavy cage is harder to stop and more likely to tip.

All three take up less space when empty, but they do it in different ways. Nestable roll cages have an A-frame base, so empty cages push into one another in a line and stay on their wheels, which makes them the fastest to put away. Demountable roll cages have removable sides and fold flat, so they take up less room on a return vehicle but take longer to break down. Collapsible cages, also called hypacages or pallet retention cages, have no castors: they fit standard pallet footprints, fold flat to as little as 210mm and stack up to four high when loaded.

Yes, for moving packaged food, ingredients in sealed sacks, and food held in lidded crates or tote boxes, which is how roll cages are used across food production and chilled distribution. The steel frames are zinc-plated or powder-coated and are not intended for direct contact with unwrapped food, so put open product into food-grade plastic containers before it goes into the cage. Zinc-plated cages resist corrosion in chilled and damp areas and wipe clean, which suits hygiene-controlled sites.
